Mostly flat and fully awesome, the 10k Classic is one for the speedsters. The course takes in one lap of the half marathon course, heading north to Narrow Neck Beach before returning to Devonport village via North Head. There's a very leisurely 9am start to look forward to, leaving you plenty of time to get ready to run whilst cheering on the half marathoners.
The 10k takes place entirely on traffic controlled roads with a total road closure near the venue and a lane closure around Narrow Neck. You'll get to enjoy the amazing views accompanied only by the sound of running shoes on tarmac. What a treat!
Series points are on the line in both the Classic and Classic Walk categories of the Auckland Half Marathon Series. This is your chance to get your pursuit of season-long glory off to a great start at Race One of the series.
The Course
The 10k Classic course is a spectacular tour of the eastern side of the Devonport peninsula which takes in landmark such as Narrow Neck beach, the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum, the Devonport foreshore and the spectacular views from North Head. The course is a mix of closed road running, footpaths, some trail paths through North Head and the shell path on the Devonport seawall. Terrain is mostly flat with a bump on Vauxhall Rd and a gentle rise to the turnaround point plus the more challenging climb up North Head (but, oh, those views!).

Safety |
|
|---|---|
| On Course | You must always remain fully aware of your surroundings and look out for uneven surfaces, obstacles or vehicles. Even where the road is closed, we cannot guarantee it will be traffic-free. Only proceed where you are satisfied it is safe to do so. |
| Medics | Medical services will be provided by an appropriately licensed medical provider who will be available on-site and available to attend emergencies on course. In the case of an emergency, marshals or race crew *may* contact the on-site medical team in the first instance as they may be able to respond sooner than 111. Important! If in any doubt, where there is a medical emergency, ask someone to call 111. |
| Marshals | Please obey the marshals where they are acting for your safety. Marshals can make emergency calls on your behalf or contact event medical staff. Important! Event marshals are provided by third-party organisations. They are volunteers and should be treated with respect, however they do not speak on behalf of the event organiser. Whilst provided with appropriate and accurate information, we cannot guarantee they will always communicate this. Participants have PRIMARY responsibility for their own safety. |
