One Week Back, Full Speed Forward

Running Events, organisers of the Harcourts Cooper & Co Devonport Half Marathon, have revealed the event will move back one week from it’s traditional early October date. The move makes room for the upgraded Run Orewa event, which now joins the Auckland Half Marathon Series as the Millwater Half Marathon.

“We feel that 3-4 weeks between each race in the Auckland Half Marathon Series is about right,” Race Director Rob Docherty said. “So with this little tweak, we can get some separation between the first two rounds without getting any closer to the Auckland Marathon’s traditional date. In fact, at two weeks out, the Millwater event is now the absolutely perfect final hit out for those taking on the marathon.”

The move means the race will now fall on a time change morning, with New Zealand’s daylight savings kicking in at 2am on 27th September. It’s something the team – and AHMS participants – are pretty used to as the ASICS Waterfront Half Marathon – the series Grand Finale – often falls on the day that daylight savings ends.

“This one will bite just a teeny bit more,” Docherty said. “It’s one hour less in bed, not one hour longer.” He continued, “It doesn’’t really bother me … I can’t sleep before a race day anyway!”
