GETTING THERE
Devonport Village is at the very southen end of the North Shore and right across the harbour from Auckland City. Although many people each day make the trip here by ferry, for most participants in the Devonport Half Marathon, it will make more sense to drive.
There is one primary aterial road in and out of the peninsula and it is *always* busy, so allow plenty of time for the trip and try to avoid leaving the area right after the Awards Ceremony, when long queues can form on Lake Road.
Parking
Parking in and around Devonport is tightly controlled and
some there is no parking permitted within the course road closure. Instead, you can find plentiful parking in the
streets just outside of the immediate village area and along Calliope Rd, leaving you with a easy
10-15 minute walk to the venue.
Important! Auckland Transport parking officials specifically target events such as hours for enforcement. Do not think, "hey, it's a Sunday morning, no one will be bothered". Yes they will and they will ticket or even remove vehicles incorrectly parked. Don't ruin a great day out by parking where you should not or exceeding the permitted time. Do NOT park across resident’s driveways - this is a 100% guaranteed trip to the towie's yard.
Tip: If you are unfamiliar with the venue, set your GPS to...
1 Victoria Road, Devonport, Auckland
... which takes you to the Esplanade Hotel.
The event venue is directly across the street but you should start looking for parking as you approach the area.
Road Closures & Traffic Management
The traffic management map shows the roads which will be affected by traffic controls on race day, including the hours of operation. Note that Vauxhall Rd will be closed in one direction only (no southbound travel between Narrow Neck and Tainui Rd). Please download and check the detail on the map to know how this may affect you.
We ask all residents to please - wherever possible - park your vehicles in your driveway or off the course on Saturday night. Your cooperation in this would be greatly appreciated and will enhance competitior safety on race day.
Running Events (organisers of the Devonport Half Marathon) are extremely grateful to Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and, in particular, the local residents of the area, for allowing us to close certain roads or lanes to support the safe operation of this event.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Unfortunately, the frequency of public transport services in Auckland on a Sunday morning is not all it could be. For those in the half marathon, its unlikely any of these will be suitable. If you are only taking part in the later events, however, you might be able to travel to the event by ....
Ferry
What
better way to arrive envigorated and ready to give your best than cruising
across the harbour and being dropped within metres of the finish line? The world famous Devonport Ferry departs from the downtown Ferry Building in downtown Auckland and arrives within 150 metres of the finish line.
Important! Although it would be great - and we have asked many times - numbers do not support a dedicated ferry service for the event
North Shore Buses
There is no dedicated event bus service for this event. However several
local North Shore bus services terminate in Devonport Village. Use
the Auckland Transport online Journey Planner (linnk below) for more information and to see if one will be suitable for your event start time.
